Rice is the most important cereal crop in the Philippines . It considered as one of the most versatile food items that man ever known. For Filipino families rice in abundance spells peace of mind and hungry days ahead.In Region I, Ilocos Norte is the only province with self sufficient on rice production.

Utilization
- per capita consumption is 127 kgs / year
- Rice can be served more than 101 ways from the ordinary table rice. Table rice can be boiled, baked, or fried plain or with a different variety of cold cuts, seafood and vegetables, colored like Java rice, or flavored like the tasty and sticky arroz valenciana.
- A gourmet by itself, rice can be served as an appetizer, main course, dessert, wine, or beer.
- Rice straw is also as versatile as the other byproducts of rice (shampoo, turned papers, used as mulch for growing onion and mushrooms.
