The Juan Luna shrine is the biggest "colonial" house in Badoc.
Marking the birthplace of one of the country's most celebrated painters and patriots, the Luna house is a two-level construction of clay bricks and molave wood. The original house was razed to the ground by a fire in 1862 soon after the Luna family moved to Manila .
The Philippine government restored the structure in 1977 and it is now under the care of the National Historical Institute. The house is currently a museum where reproduction of Juan Luna's works are displayed including those of his masterpiece, Spolarium, and the portrait of his wife, Paz Pardo de Tavera.
Outside Luna's house is a bronze sculpture of the artist himself by Abdul Imao. |
