Aside from its human-made attractions, Paoay is gifted with a serene lake, the largest in the province, that has provided generations with livelihood from fishing and, recently, from tourism. Paoay Lake 's waters provide an ample supply of fish and shellfish. The lake also makes for good paddling and swimming replete with broad vistas of quiet farming communities and the imposing figure of the Malacanang ti Amianan . Flower buffs will delight in lotuses that regularly crown tha lakes clear water every two years.
Standing as a beacon to welcome all visitors the church and belfry of Paoay mark the center of the town which it most obviously dominates. It was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993.
The streets surrounding the church are lined with heritage houses that are sure to delight architectural buffs and provide beautiful backdrops for photographs.
Paoay is also known as the home of the best weavers of Ilocos Norte. The textile is called inabel and is woven in pedal frame looms.
