Nature buffs will find it worth their while to check out Nueva Era. The municipality's forested mountains are ideal for trekking and nature trips. Interesting trekking destinations include Tree Park, Papa Dam, and the site of the former Hercules Mine. Those who like swimming have two options, Cacanan and Piaaw Falls .
In keeping with its new age name, Nueva Era has maintained some of its traditional practices. One of these is the pacder. Visitors should be on the lookout for a small structure at the entrance of Nueva Era communities. The structure reserves as an altar where food offerings are made to anitos or nature spirits. Offerings are made whenever there is sickness in a community. A priestess performs the ritual offering called aropag. Through chanting and dancing she beseeches the spirits to banish illness.
Nueva Era is also peopled by Itneg, so visitors should not be surprised to hear a different language spoken in the area. The singsong speech is an interesting mix of ilocano and Itneg. Native speakers put a noticeable stress on the last syllable of every sentence and replace "r" sounds with "l".
